The Thucydides Trap Returns: Did the Trump–Xi Summit Push the US and China Closer to Conflict or Cooperation?

After years of escalating tensions, tariffs, military rivalry, and technological warfare, the Trump–Xi summit has revived one of geopolitics’ most dangerous questions: can a rising China and a dominant United States avoid the Thucydides Trap—or is confrontation becoming inevitable? By Dr. Pshtiwan Faraj | Sulaimani, Iraq | 13 May 2026 — Kurdish Policy Analysis How are the United States and China redefining their relationship? "We don't have permanent allies and we don't have permanent enemies, only our interests are permanent, and we have to follow them." – Henry John Temple. The root of the current Strait of Hormuz tensions is not only about shipping routes or oil prices, but also about the final collapse of the historical US concept towards Beijing. However, the 2025 National Security Strategy, released by the White House in November, says this was a historic mistake because China used the assets it accumulated to strengthen itself and compete with the West, not to...

How Iran is trying to win the war?

How Iran is trying to win the war?

Iran is not trying to win the war, it is trying to make it very expensive

That's two completely different games. And most people still don’t understand the difference.

Iran is not fighting a military war.

Iran is fighting an economic war.

Their goal is not to hit the military base. or warships. They don't even target Israel or the United States

Iran has changed its goal of war.

Their target is the price of oil.

Iran has made their goal very clear.

$200 per barrel of oil.

That's how Iran declares victory - not by shooting down an F-35, but by doubling oil prices and causing unbearable pain, it would be devastating to the global economy, creating a situation where 50 presidents call Trump every day to stop the war.

Think about that strategy for a moment.

15,000 martyr drones, which cost several thousand dollars, will hit the billion-dollar oil infrastructure in the region.

Iran has been preparing for this war for decades

Stop the movement of oil.

When oil stops moving, the price goes up.

When the price goes up, the whole world screams.

Iran’s logic is brutally simple.

The day oil hits $200 a barrel — Iran wins.

Not because they shot down one or two planes.

Iran is not trying to escape the war.

Iran is trying to make winning the war worse than losing.

That’s their strategy.
