As tensions over trade, Taiwan, technology, and global influence intensify, the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping may determine the future balance of power between Washington and Beijing. By Dr. Pshtiwan Faraj | Sulaimani, Iraq | 13 May 2026 — Kurdish Policy Analysis "We don't have permanent allies and we don't have permanent enemies, only our interests are permanent, and we have to follow them." – Henry John Temple. The root of the current Strait of Hormuz tensions is not only about shipping routes or oil prices, but also about the final collapse of the historical US concept towards Beijing. However, the 2025 National Security Strategy, released by the White House in November, says this was a historic mistake because China used the assets it accumulated to strengthen itself and compete with the West, not to become their partner. Breaking: US Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship in Gulf of Oman, Trump Says

Washington says vessel tried to breach maritime embargo as tensions escalate in Gulf waters

By Dr. Pshtiwan Fara, Kurdish Policy Analysis, April 20 (KPA)

The United States has seized a large Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly attempted to breach a US maritime embargo, President Donald Trump said on Monday.

Trump stated that the Iranian-flagged vessel, identified as the Tosca, a 900-foot cargo ship comparable in size to an aircraft carrier, was intercepted by US naval forces after entering restricted waters in the Sea of Oman.

According to Trump, the USS Spruance, a US Navy destroyer, ordered the vessel to stop. When the crew allegedly refused to comply, the US ship “disabled” the vessel’s propulsion system.

“Our naval ship held them in place by drilling holes in the engine room,” Trump said, without providing operational details.

US Marines subsequently boarded and seized control of the ship, Trump added. He also claimed the vessel had previously been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department over alleged “illegal activity.”

“We have completely seized the ship and now we will see what is inside,” Trump said.

The development marks a significant escalation in maritime tensions following Washington’s imposition of an expanded naval embargo on Iranian shipping routes. The US has warned that vessels approaching restricted zones may be intercepted.

Iran has not yet publicly responded to the incident.
