The conflict between the Iranian government and Jaish al-Adl fighters has continued for two decades, with a large number of fighters and Iranian soldiers killed in clashes.

Who are Jaish al-Adl?

Jaish-e-Adl is an anti-government Baloch militant group that claims to fight for the ethnic and religious rights of the Baloch people in Iran. In response, the Iranian government and several Western countries, including the United States, have listed the group as a "terrorist organization.

The armed group emerged in 2012, with most of its members formerly from the Jundallah group, after Iran arrested and weakened most of its leaders.

The group calls for the independence of Sistan province in eastern Iran and Balochistan region in southwestern Pakistan. This goal has made it a common goal of both the Iranian and Pakistani governments.

Jaish al-Adl describes itself as the "defender of Sunni rights in Iran," especially in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The Baloch population in Iran is about 4 to 5 million, living in eastern and southeastern provinces and making up the majority of the population in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The region has been witnessing bloody clashes between Baloch organizations and Iranian military forces for more than two decades. 

The presence of Jaish-e-Adl in Balochistan

Members of this group belong to the Baloch ethnic group and live on both sides of the border. Although Pakistan insists the group has no organized presence on its territory, it has acknowledged that some militants may be hiding in remote areas of Balochistan, its largest province and a sensitive area due to long-running insurgencies.

Although Pakistan currently acts as a mediator between Iran and the United States, Iran and Pakistan have a long history of exchanging accusations over armed attacks.

Attacks on security forces in both countries have increased in recent years, with each side accusing the other of ignoring extremists.
