Kurdish Policy Analysis / SULAIMANI, Iraq — Flights resumed on Monday at Jalal Talabani International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, following a suspension of more than 40 days imposed by the Iraq Civil Aviation Authority over regional security concerns.

Dana Mohammed, the airport’s media director, said the first outbound flight departed at dawn bound for Jordan, with a return flight scheduled later the same day.

Operations have resumed in accordance with a flight schedule issued by the aviation authority, with regular inbound and outbound services expected to continue in the coming days, she told Shafaq News.

The suspension was triggered by heightened risks to civil aviation during a period of military escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which led Iraqi authorities to temporarily restrict airspace.

Flights were cleared to resume after the reopening of Iraq’s airspace on April 8, with officials citing improved stability and a return to normal operating conditions.

The resumption is expected to ease travel disruptions and restore a key regional gateway that serves both commercial passengers and international connections in northeastern Iraq.
