As tensions over trade, Taiwan, technology, and global influence intensify, the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping may determine the future balance of power between Washington and Beijing. By Dr. Pshtiwan Faraj | Sulaimani, Iraq | 13 May 2026 — Kurdish Policy Analysis "We don't have permanent allies and we don't have permanent enemies, only our interests are permanent, and we have to follow them." – Henry John Temple. The root of the current Strait of Hormuz tensions is not only about shipping routes or oil prices, but also about the final collapse of the historical US concept towards Beijing. Iraqi Kurdistan’s Jalal Talabani Airport reopens after 40-day flight halt

Operations restart at Jalal Talabani International Airport after prolonged shutdown linked to regional escalation involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran. Flights resume at Sulaimaniyah’s Jalal Talabani International Airport after a 40-day suspension caused by regional security tensions.

Kurdish Policy Analysis / SULAIMANI, Iraq — Flights resumed on Monday at Jalal Talabani International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, following a suspension of more than 40 days imposed by the Iraq Civil Aviation Authority over regional security concerns.

Dana Mohammed, the airport’s media director, said the first outbound flight departed at dawn bound for Jordan, with a return flight scheduled later the same day.

Operations have resumed in accordance with a flight schedule issued by the aviation authority, with regular inbound and outbound services expected to continue in the coming days, she told Shafaq News.

The suspension was triggered by heightened risks to civil aviation during a period of military escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which led Iraqi authorities to temporarily restrict airspace.

Flights were cleared to resume after the reopening of Iraq’s airspace on April 8, with officials citing improved stability and a return to normal operating conditions.

The resumption is expected to ease travel disruptions and restore a key regional gateway that serves both commercial passengers and international connections in northeastern Iraq.
