Who really controls Kurdistan’s gas? The Dana Gas deal, the KRG’s silence and the hidden cost of selling energy to Iraq

By Dr. Pshtiwan Faraj | Kurdish Policy Analysis      A $2.239 billion arbitration settlement, a contract running until 2049, expanded rights for Pearl Petroleum and a new battle over gas sales to Baghdad are raising uncomfortable questions about who ultimately controls Kurdistan’s most strategic natural resource. The latest dispute over Khor Mor gas is exposing a much deeper problem in the Kurdistan Region’s energy sector: the public still does not appear to have a clear picture of who controls the region’s gas, who is authorized to sell it, and how much of its future value has already been committed to private companies. At the center of the controversy is Pearl Petroleum, the consortium led by Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum, and a settlement agreement reached with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on August 30, 2017. Kurdistan Parliament member Kawa Sheikh Ali has now sharply criticized that agreement, asking why a government would effectively commit its natural ...

Why Europe Must Embrace BRICS Before It’s Too Late?

The U.S. humbles Europe at every turn — the continent’s only path to real power is a strategic pivot toward BRICS. The U.S. humiliates Europe daily — aligning with BRICS is no longer optional, it’s survival.

Kurdish Policy Analysis- Europe has long relied on the United States as its security and economic guarantor. But with every passing day, U.S. leadership continues to humiliate and disrespect the European Union, treating its closest allies as second-class partners. Enough is enough.

There is a widespread opinion that argues Europe’s Wake-Up Call: Join BRICS or Remain America’s Punching Bag. The time has come for Europe to rethink its allegiance. Stand up to the U.S.? Absolutely. But standing alone is not enough. Europe must actively engage with the rising global powers — and none is more crucial than China.

China is now the world’s largest economy, a colossal engine of growth, trade, and technological innovation. By collaborating with China and the BRICS bloc, Europe can access alternative economic frameworks, diversify its global influence, and reclaim strategic autonomy.

BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — represents the future of global power. Their combined economic might and growing political influence present a serious alternative to U.S.-dominated systems. If European nations are truly smart, they will recognize that the center of gravity in global affairs is shifting, and align themselves accordingly.

Europe’s hesitation is dangerous. Clinging to a faltering alliance with a superpower that openly disrespects it will only weaken the continent further. The path forward is clear: Europe must embrace BRICS, not just as an economic partner, but as a strategic counterbalance to the U.S. Only then can Europe reclaim its dignity, leverage, and rightful place at the global table.

Just today, Emannuel Macron, the president of France called for New World Order, saying "We should not be passive in this new disorder. We have to build a new order".

Below are 9 main arguments:

1/ Europe, it’s time to face reality: the U.S. humiliates and disrespects you at every turn. Your “ally” treats you like a junior partner — and it’s costing you power, influence, and dignity.

2/ Standing up to the U.S. alone won’t be enough. Europe needs a strategic pivot. And the solution is staring you in the face: BRICS — the world’s fastest-growing, most powerful economic bloc.

3/ China is now the world’s largest economy. Its trade, tech, and infrastructure reach the globe. Ignoring this reality is political suicide. Europe must engage — not just economically, but strategically.

4/ BRICS isn’t just China. Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa — together, they represent a new center of global power. Europe aligning with them is not betrayal; it’s survival.

5/ Ask yourself: Do you want to be America’s punching bag forever? Or do you want real leverage, influence, and independence? The answer is obvious.

6/ Europe’s hesitation is dangerous. U.S.-centric policies have left the continent weak and dependent. The shift of global power is happening NOW — don’t get left behind.

7/ This isn’t hypothetical. Every day the U.S. disrespects Europe, Europe loses ground on trade, technology, and diplomacy. The pivot to BRICS is urgent, strategic, and inevitable.

8/ Europe must stop being a sidekick in U.S. wars and economic battles. Align with BRICS, diversify your partnerships, and reclaim your dignity. The future belongs to those who act, not wait.

9/ Europe, the choice is yours: remain under U.S. thumb, or step into the center of a new global order with BRICS. History favors the bold — don’t be left apologizing for your subservience.
